Landscape architecture is a discipline that explores the desirable interface between humans and nature. It is a field of study and practice that focuses on the design, planning, and management of natural and built environments. This includes urban environments such as parks, gardens, residential and commercial areas, and public squares, as well as rural landscapes and natural environments such as rivers and forests. Landscape architects strive to harmonize and mediate various situations to create functional and beautiful environments. Thus, preserving the foundation for sustainable and healthy living is the primary goal of the field of landscape architecture.
Established in 1976, the Department of Landscape Architecture at Kyung Hee University has been part of the College of Arts and Design since 1999, offering specialized education in the field of design. Along with exceptional design skills, the department pursues active intellectual exchange with other fields such as humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. Through this approach, it aims to cultivate landscape architects as leaders in the field of environmental design, equipped with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The values pursued by our department are based on an intellectual and practical understanding of humans and nature. Our members carefully observe the various phenomena surrounding humans to respond to the rapid changes in natural and urban environments. From global and national issues due to climate change to taking care of vacant lots and gardens in front of our homes, we cultivate talents who can creatively interpret various situations and propose the best solutions.
